Carencro Veterans Day Celebration

On Thursday November 6, 2014, the Carencro community will celebrate and honor the military veterans of our area in a program at the Carencro Community Center located at 5115 North University Ave. The event sponsored by the Carencro Business Association begins at 11 a.m. and includes patriotic music by the Carencro High School Band. A display of photographs and memorabilia will be provided by area veterans. The event organizers feel it is important to recognize military medal recipients. A special feature of the celebration will be announcement of the winner of a patriotic essay award contest which includes eighth grade students from area schools. The winning essay will be presented by its author. The top three writers will be presented with cash awards from the Carencro Business Association and featured in the next issue of the Community Chronicles. The 2014 program promises to be even better than prior years. Event organizer, Lee Verret commented, "Several area veterans will read Douglas Harper's memoire of his experience at Pearl Harbor during the Japanese attack. The entire event will pay tribute to the men and women who have served our country in the United States Armed Forces." Photos of active and veteran military members are being collected between September 1 and October 31 at Melancon Funeral Home Office (Chapel Location) at 4117 N. University Ave 337.896.8596. They will be displayed at the celebration program. Memorabilia are being collected at the North Regional Library (5101 North University AVE) 337.896.6323. They will be displayed at the library and transported to the Veterans Day Celebration.
