Hilliard Museum Plaza
4:30pm-7:00pm
Join The Hilliard University Art Museum on Saturday, May 12th for a bicentennial celebration of the arts. The Museum will host the New Leviathan Oriental Fox-Trot Orchestra in consort with our year of Louisiana Art and Artists. Lt. Governor Jay Dardenne will give a brief description of the events associated with Louisianas Bicentennial prior to the evening performance. The Orchestra, co-founded by the artist George Schmidt whose paintings are featured in a Hilliard museum exhibition, is a living museum which performs authentic orchestrations of vintage American popular music from the 1890s through the early 1930s. The orchestra pays particular attention to the music of New Orleans, Louisiana, where it is based. In addition to the well known compositions of jazz and ragtime composers like Jelly Roll Morton, Fletcher Henderson, and Eubie Blake, the orchestra's repertory includes the work of New Orleans Tin Pan Alley composers such as Larry Buck, Joe Verges, Paul Sarebresole and Nick Clesi.
